Dr Lauren Eglen, Project Lead
Lauren Eglen is a Senior Research Fellow in Gender Justice at the University of Nottingham. With a background in the history of social movements against race and gender oppression, she is interested in how intersecting social identities and systems of oppression interact to shape individuals’ experiences of human trafficking and access to support. She has previously led projects on forced marriage, honour-based abuse, gender-based violence and human trafficking survivors narratives, all of which led to the identification of forms of reproductive violence and exploitation occurring in trafficking contexts, and subsequent SRHR needs that were not being adequately addressed. Lauren takes an intersectional feminist approach to her work and seeks to work with grassroots organisations and people with lived experience to develop strategies and resources that address the root causes of gender based violence and barriers to accessing SRHR services.

Azadi Kenya, Project Partner
Azadi Community is a survivor-led, value based organisation that focuses on the provision of long-term support for survivors of trafficking who, too often, find a lack of community support and understanding when reintegrating into society, ensuing their experience with trafficking. We run several programmes, all meant to facilitate healing, reintegration, and survivor leadership. We create interventions that are community-led and community centered.
Our goal is to create spaces and programmes that enhance the agency of survivors of trafficking, to support recovery from trauma, and to sustain their reintegration into society. We are doing this through the operation of a resource center where the survivors receive skills training to empower them, give them valuable competencies, and give them all it takes to become leaders of their communities, the anti trafficking sector and the larger human rights sector.
