In 2024, researchers at the Rights Lab, University of Nottingham partnered with anti-GBV organisation Survivors Haven Foundation to co-create an accessible educational toolkit for those impacted by GBV in South Africa.

Together, we created the ‘GBV Edu-Kit’ to improve people’s awareness of their rights with regards to gender discimination and violence. The toolkit includes information about different forms of GBV, the statutory obligations of different justice actors involved in GBV cases, and about each stage of criminal justice process.

It is our hope that this Edu-kit will enable survivors and those who work to support them to better navigate the criminal justice system in South Africa, empower survivors to be able to advocate for themselves, and to improve justice outcomes in GBV cases.
